Wheat stubble height effects on subsequent corn and grain sorghum crops

چکیده
For sustainable productivity, a winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)–summer crop (corn [Zea mays L.] or grain sorghum [Sorghum bicolor L.])–fallow (W-SC-F) cropping system could benefit from optimal stubble cutting height management, but only limited information is available. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect on subsequent corn and yields, available soil water, water use, precipitation storage efficiency in W-C-F W-S-F system. This conducted 2006 through 2020 at Kansas State University Southwest Research-Extension Center near Tribune, KS. experimental design randomized complete block with three heights (high, low, strip). Average across all years, there 9%–10% yield 7%–11% biomass advantage high stripper harvested compared low cut stubble, 5% stubble. Kernel weight component that significantly differed among treatments. Water productivity treatments (15.3 kg ha−1 mm−1) greater (14 mm−1). treatment (18.9 also (17.7 Total planting (ASWP) harvest (ASWH) were both for total ASWP ASWH not different We concluded decreased yields W-C/S-F

The effects of different autumn-seeded cover crops on subsequent irrigated corn response to nitrogen fertilizer
A common crop rotation in the west Iran is wheat-fallow-corn. The fallow period after wheat harvest (during fall and winter) can lead to soil erosion, nutrient losses (e.g. nitrate leaching) and offsite movement of pesticides. This period is an ideal time to establish a cover crop. In order to investigate the effects of different autumn-bseeded cover crops on subsequent irrigated corn response ...
متن کاملPopulation Dynamics of Plant-parasitic Nematodes on Cover Crops of Corn and Sorghum.
Buildup of plant-parasitic nematode populations on corn (Zea mays), soybean (Glycine max), and sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) were compared in 1991 and 1992. Final population densities (Pf) of Meloidogyne incognita were lower following sorghum than after soybean in both seasons, and Pf after sorghum was lower than Pf after corn in 1992. In both seasons, Pf differed among the sorghum cultivars used. ...
متن کاملEffect of watering regimen on injury to corn and grain sorghum by pratylenchus species.
The effect of simulated rainfall frequency on the pathogenicity of Pratylenchus zeae and P. brachyurus was studied in four greenhouse experiments. Corn and grain sorghum were watered at different intervals during predetermined cycles to create a gradient of water-stressed plants. Each experiment included nematode and uninoculated treatments. Growth reaction of plants to different frequencies of...
